Job Description:

LUMETA is seeking an individual to drive the product development, application, system design/implementation, testing and certification activities associated with its current product line, as well as for new products not yet announced. This individual will be responsible for product improvement design activities, developing optimized PV system designs tailored to specific buildings that incorporate LUMETA’s solar products, executing and documenting the required field tests of current products, assessing PV system component suppliers and products, and documenting product application know-how into training presentations and manuals to be used by DRI Energy and other users of LUMETA products. The applications engineer will support the products certification activities for markets outside the US. This individual will also support DRI Energy’s PV system design requirements and LUMETA’s distributors and installer partners, providing product technical and applications support. The position will report to LUMETA’s Chief Operating Officer and will be based either in Irvine or San Leandro, CA.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Oversee and coordinate UL/IEC and other third party certification processes, working closely with outside certification testing laboratory.
• Implement product design changes aimed at improving performance, increasing reliability and/or reducing costs.
• Develop and execute long-term testing protocols for product line at company’s testing facility in San Leandro.
• Design optimized and cost effective grid connected PV systems (module layout, array design, inverter and junction boxes) that result in a competitive advantage for DRI Energy; generate one-line diagrams and roof layouts as needed.
• Assess and select potential Balance of System (BOS) components based on components’ performance and installed cost effectiveness.
• Develop and document product application guidelines for LUMETA’s product line; develop installation instruction manuals for existing and new products.
• Develop product support solutions for solar installers using LUMETA products, including project design support tools, training curriculum and delivery plans.
• Provide design and provide technical project design and product support to solar installers using LUMETA products.
• Conduct product training sessions as needed.

Requirements:

• Three+ years of experience in design, sizing, component selection and/or testing of grid-tied solar electric systems.
• Product design experience with electrical/electronics content.
• Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCad, Solidworks, MSProject and other design and product development tools.
• Ability to thrive in a start-up environment, with limited direction and broad responsibilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Solar system products or components design and/or application experience.
• Previous commercial solar system design experience with large solar integrator.
• Experience in electrical power distribution system and/or on-site generation system design, including one-line diagrams.
• Product system design experience with electrical/electronics components.
• Professional Engineer license in the State of California.
• Fluent in Mandarin (products are manufactured in China), German or French.
